Result of the Special General Meeting

The Special General Meeting of the Welsh Bridge Union on Sunday 5th September 2010was very well attended. By an overwhelming majority members approved the proposed changes to the Constitution and Management of the WBU, which had previously been agreed by Council.

WBU Journal

The 2010 edition of the WBU Journal has reached the website. This is the annual publication with the results of last year's competitions, details of clubs, this year's competitions, rules and regulations, master point lists, the calendar and everything else you need to know to play bridge in Wales. You can access the journal online here.

Welsh Trials

The selection process for next year's Welsh Open teams has started. There will be two Welsh teams in the Camrose next year, because we host the second weekend, so at least six pairs will be representing Wales. More details. Result of the Pre-Trial Pairs.

The new selection committee has been announced. They are Mike Close, Paul Denning, Linda Greenland, Julian Pottage and Alan Stephenson. There is now a Selectors' Blog here, where you can read about their activities and decisions. It includes the list of pairs invited to the final trials.

Ladies Pairs who would like to play in the trials for our Lady Milne team (home Ladies internationals) should let Neville know by October 31st.

The selectors have decided that the Seniors Trials will be moved to a new date (still to be chosen) in the New Year to avoid the clash with the Tollemache heats.

Welsh Cup and Cambria Cup 2010-11

Entries are invited for the 2010-2011 Welsh and Cambria Cups. They should reach Mike Best by 30th September. Entry cheques will not be cashed if you don't reach the last 16s.

Commonwealth Nations

The team to represent Wales in the Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championships to be held in New Delhi from October 24th to October 29th, 2010 has been announced. It is Adrian Thomas, Peter Goodman, Patrick Jourdain, Gary Jones and Tim Rees. Website for the event.

European Bridge

The European Bridge League has introduced a European Masterpoints system covering performances in European and World events. Read about it, and see Welsh players rankings.

Events

The WBU Autumn Simultaneous Pairs are on September 6-10 in participating clubs. Further details on Ecats. Results will appear here.

The Welsh Invitation Pairs is on 11-12 September at St Mellons Golf Club between Cardiff and Newport. The field has eight international pairs from outside Wales and eight leading Welsh pairs. Spectators are welcome free of charge

On September 13-16, Wales hosts one of the world's most prestigious bridge events: the match between Europe and North America for the Buffett Cup. The event is at the Miskin Manor, a few miles West of Cardiff. Spectators are welcome at the tables or in the Vugraph theatre, or you can watch all tables on BBO.

The North Wales Bridge Association Autumn Swiss Pairs is on 10 October at the Holiday Inn near Chester. Brochure
