Club Tournament Directors with a minimum of 6 months experience of directing club duplicates, who wish to become fully competent and qualified Club Directors.

Objectives

On completion of the course, participants will:

· have a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of a club tournament director:

· be able to find their way around the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge in order to be able to give accurate rulings in respect of ‘mechanical’ problems which may occur at the bridge table, such as lead or call out of turn, revokes, playing a wrong board, etc.;

· understand the function of the Handbook of EBU Directives and Conventions (the ‘Orange Book’) and its application to their clubs.


Prerequisites

Participants must be members of the English Bridge Union. They should have played duplicate bridge at club level, and have some previous experience of directing at this level. Previous attendance on a Club Directing Essentials would be an advantage. All those attending should bring with them a personal copy of the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge 1997 and a copy of the Handbook of EBU Directives and Conventions 1998 (The Orange Book).

Content

The course includes talks, discussions, group problem solving exercises and role-play to simulate problem situations. It will be led by tutors with experience both in teaching and tournament directing.

A‘WBU Club Directors Certificate of Attendance’ will be issued to all who attend this course.

Duration

One day. The course will usually start at 10.30am and finish approximately 5.00pm, but timings may vary from venue to venue.

Location

The course will normally be run at bridge clubs in a number of locations across the country.
