ASSESSMENT
For Whom
Club Tournament Directors with a minimum of 6 months experience of directing
club duplicates, who wish to become fully competent and qualified Club Directors.
Objectives
The prime objective of this course
is to assess candidates suitability to become fully qualified Club Directors,
based on their performance in the exercises therein. Participation will also
be a learning experience, however, and those attending will improve their knowledge
of the Laws and Directives governing duplicate bridge and gain insight into
the best ways of handling calls for the director.
Prerequisites
Participants must be members of the Welsh Bridge Union and must have attended
the Book Rulings and Judgment Rulings (or A and B) courses for Club Directors.
They are expected to have a strong grasp of those laws covering calls out of
turn, revokes and leads out of turn. In particular, participants are expected
to be able to cope with a lead out of turn without recourse to the Law Book.
All those attending should bring with them a personal copy of the Laws of Duplicate
Contract Bridge 1997 and a copy of the Handbook of EBU Directives and Conventions
1998 (The Orange Book).
Content
The course consists primarily of directing
simulations in which participants will take turns to act as Directors or players
requiring rulings, and are assessed on their performance in the directing role.
In addition, participants will tackle two quizzes on correct handling of a number
of directing situations, the results of which are also assessed. Tuition and
assessment is by very experienced tournament directors.
A WBU Club Directors Certificate of Competence will be issued to all those who are successful on the course in being assessed as fully qualified.
Duration
One day. The course will usually start
at 10.30am and finish approximately 5.00pm, but timings may vary from venue
to venue.
Location
The course will normally be run at
bridge clubs in various locations according to demand.
